Installation Process

So, You’ve Decided to Install a Gas Range. Now What?

  1. Purchase Your Gas Range
The first step is to purchase your gas range, which may seem straightforward, but some customers are unsure of where to buy one. A common question we get is, "Can I buy the range from you?" While a few HVAC companies do sell gas ranges, most—including ours—are not set up for appliance sales. The best places to purchase a gas range are home improvement stores like Home Hardware, Home Depot, The Brick, or other appliance retailers.

  2. What to Consider Before Purchasing Your Gas Range
Before selecting the latest and greatest gas range, consider the following:

    • Size Matters
It’s crucial to understand the size of the appliance you need. For example, if you purchase a large range capable of cooking for a football team but only have a ½-inch gas line in your home, you may end up spending hundreds or even thousands on gas line upgrades to support the new range.

    • Compatibility with Your Home's Gas Supply
If you don’t already have a gas range or are unfamiliar with purchasing one, it's worth researching the best options for your needs that will also be compatible with your current gas supply system. Be upfront with the salesperson about your home’s gas line size. If they’re unable to assist, simply send us the BTU rating of the gas appliance you're considering, and we’ll help you determine if it will work with your existing setup.

3. Range is On-Site
Once you've selected your gas range and had it delivered to your home, it's time to contact us so we can connect it. However, there are a few things we’ll need from you:

  • If you haven't reached out to us prior to purchasing your gas range and are now looking for someone to hook it up, we’ll require the following details:

    • BTU Rating: We'll need to know the BTU rating of your gas range. Additionally, it would be helpful if you can provide the BTU ratings for any other gas appliances in your home, such as your furnace, fireplace, and water heater. This isn’t mandatory, but it will assist in ensuring everything is compatible.

    • Size of Your Home: Please provide us with the approximate square footage of your home. This will help us determine whether your gas line can support the new range.

  • Photos:
If possible, please send us photos of your gas range and, more importantly, photos of the capped gas line where the range will be connected. This will help us assess the situation more efficiently.

  • No Pre-existing Gas Line?
If your home does not have a pre-existing gas line for a range, please let us know. In this case, we may need to schedule an on-site visit to evaluate and install a new gas line.

4. Hook-up
If everything is sized correctly and all we need to do is connect a gas hose to an existing capped-off range gas line, the installation can be completed in approximately 30 minutes.

5. Price
The cost can vary depending on several factors, such as materials, size, and the time required for the job.

For example, if we need to install a new gas line, this will increase the overall cost. However, if no additional gas line is needed, it will save you money on the hook-up.

For a typical connection, reducing from a 1-inch main gas line to a ½-inch line, with materials and labor, the cost would range between $250.00 and $350.00, depending on the specific circumstances.
